Empowering Edmonton Event 2010

As I wake up this morning, I can’t really describe the feeling I have after our big inaugural event yesterday.  I am a little biased but I must say that I would give the day a 10 out of 10 and here’s all the reasons why:

Wayne Lee

Firstly, because of my good friend Wayne Lee who was the perfect co-founder of the event.  Wayne and I have been friends since high school and have threatened to throw a big event like this for quite some time.  Wayne is a class act and follows through with everything he says.  It’s no wonder why people love Wayne, no matter where he goes.  Thanks buddy!

Cerebral Palsy

Thanks also goes out to all the staff and volunteers at Cerebral Palsy.  Joanne, Marie, Diane and everyone that played a part in making this day work.  There was never a time that Joanne and her crew said ‘no’.  They were the perfect charity to partner with and we are excited about to prospects of making this an annual event in Edmonton!

Speakers

When Wayne and I first discussed the day, we felt the most important decision was the line up of speakers.  We wanted to gather a diverse group of experts from Edmonton who were gifted on stage to give the attendees value, information and inspiration.  Wayne and I give our own standing ovation to Charmaine, Larry and Lori-Ann not only for being inspirational for the attendees of Empowering Edmonton but also inspirational to us.  The biggest highlight for me was wearing Lori-Ann’s Olympic gold Medal around my neck.  I could feel her Glory! It was amazing!

Thanks to Seanna Collins for being a superb hostess.  She was so professional and so aware of what was going on.  She kept us on track and on schedule.  You are an amazing MC Seanna!

And thanks to Cam Tait from the Edmonton Journal for your cameo appearance and short presentation!

Sponsors

Thanks must go out to our sponsors.  An event like this cannot happen without key sponsors like:

  • Tom at CanadianFinanceBlog.com, one of Canada’s biggest and best personal finance blogs.  Tom was instrumental with anything that had to do with our website www.EmpoweringEdmonton.com.
  • Dan at The Echo Store took care of all of our printing needs.  He printed our posters, the tickets, and all of our promotional postcards.  There were times I called him in the morning and he had stuff ready for me by noon.
  • David Jacobs at Anticipation Media took care of all of our video needs.  You will see how good David is when we put up some video footage of the day on our website.  Thank you David!
  • Morris Chirka ran around all day taking pictures of people, things and even took a few minutes to pose with Lori-Ann’s Gold Medal.  Morris not only donated his time but also every photograph he took.  That’s so generous.
  • Thanks to Monica and Peter from the Coast Plaza for hosting our event.  They were so helpful and accommodated our many needs before and during our event.  Thanks to all the staff that really made our event go smoothly.
  • And special thanks also goes out to Cine Audio Visual for helping out with our AV needs.

The attendees

There are so many ‘thanks ” to give but we cannot forget to thank all of the attendees of our first ever Empowering Edmonton Event.  Over 130 people attended the day.  Together we cried, laughed, cheered, clapped, learned and got inspired to a better life!

Special thanks goes to the companies and individuals that sponsored tables:

  • Darren Smith and Sid Swick at Clearpoint Advisor Group
  • Gary and Scott Kwasnecha at Financial Services Group
  • Walter Diduck at Remax Realty
  • John McMullen at World Financial Group
  • Andrea Mosker at Allergan Botox
  • Deb Manz at Alberta Association and College of Chiroprators
  • Beth Purdon at the City of St.Albert
  • Dianne Young

Thanks to you and your guests for attending the event.  You played a big part in making the event a big success.

Empowering Edmonton 2010 is over so what’s next?

Based on the success of this event, there’s no question that Empowering Edmonton 2011 will happen!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll tally up the numbers and announce how much money we raised for Cerebral Palsy.

We’ve got lots of pictures from Morris and will post a few to show you how much fun we had this day!

David will get us some video segments to include on the site as well so you can see a sample of the content from the speakers!

If you attended Empowering Edmonton, we’d love to hear your thoughts on our FACEBOOK PAGE.

As we said, the event exceeded our expectations so the plans for a second Empowering Edmonton Event in 2011 has already started.  If you want to hear more about this event, please sign up on our sign up page.

Thanks again for everyone’s support!
